Slideshow From My Visit
My Personal Experience: Coming across this gem of a museum was a bit of a circumstantial occurrence as had it not been for me staying in downtown STL and not having a car I am certain I would not have come across this museum at all. Not saying its a hard to miss establishment, the National Blues Museum definitely stands out from its surroundings. I just had so much to see on this trip that could I have ventured out further than my surroundings I would not have wondered around in the downtown area so much.
With that said, there was a bit of a change of plans and since I walked pass the museum plenty of times I wondered aloud about stopping in and checking it out. Upon entering my friend and I were warmly greeted and I asked if they offered a military discount. They did offer a military discount and it reduced the price from $15 to $12.
The museum itself is filled with many interactive elements and I went at a perfect time to fiddle with every one of them. You can make music at a few stations, learn the difference between different instruments and variations of the same instrument, and there are a few cool photo ops to take advantage of. The tour can be short or stretched out depending on how you take everything in. There are some entertaining videos to sit and watch and beyond those each exhibit inside is very informative of the evolution of blues music from its beginnings through current days, as well as details on its development in different states across the country.
I know I say this a lot, but put this on your list of stops if you are in St. Louis, MO. They have live shows there, but I was not able to attend during my trip. I was told by multiple people that the shows were pretty good. They also offer memberships with great perks for blues lovers.
